Florence Scovel Shinn (1871 – 1940) was an American artist and book illustrator and key member of the New Thought Movement. After the publication of her first book, “the Game of Life and How to Play It” in 1925, she became a popular lecturer and writer. She has helped thousands of people through her work of healing and assisting in solving their problems.
Scovel believed there are three areas of the mind:
- subconscious
- conscious, and
- superconscious
The Subconscious Mind, she believed, “is simple power, without direction. It is life steam or electricity, and it does what it is directed to do; it has no power of induction.”
The Conscious Mind, she stated, “has been called mortal or carnal mind.” and
The Superconscious Mind “is the God Mind within each man [person] and is the realm of perfect ideas.” (2017:40)
Florence believed that there is a divine design for each person – she placed this philosophy on Plato, the Greek philosopher (c.427 – 348 BC).
“There is a place that you are to fill and no one else can fill,
something you are to do,
which no one else can do.”
Food for Thought:
What is your place that you are to fill?
Have you even thought about it?
